POTY 43: Welcome Ta POTY

POTY 43: Welcome Ta POTY by Ben and Sarah Jedd

THE NEWS IS TERRIBLE.  Not our news, but, you know, the news.

We are also SO FREAKING SPORTY right now, you guys.

Parenting on the Internet:

We looked at Psychology Today’s 7 sins that your teen is using social media too much to find out if anyone under our roof has a problem.  https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/artificial-maturity/201806/seven-symptoms-too-much-social-media-use

Parenting Hacks:

Ben works magic with the simple phrase, “I have to work.”

Review:

Ben is LOVING Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on CD. http://rickriordan.com/series/percy-jackson-and-the-olympians/

Sarah recommends the 40 bags in 40 days clutter challenge.  https://www.whitehouseblackshutters.com/40-bags-in-40-days/

POTY 42: Sarah has the Good Mic

POTY 42: Sarah has the Good Mic by Ben and Sarah Jedd

In the News

Harry’s birthday party was at our pool,  and Ben thinks this is the last year for a big birthday party.  What do you think? What are the teens doing these days in your neck of the woods?

Our across-the-street neighbors are moving away!  Did you have neighborhood friends who moved when you were a kid?  We did, and we can still remember them.

Sarah signed up to coach Dorothy’s t-ball team, so let her tell you all about it.

Parenting on the Internet:

We discuss the serious—but not surprising—issue o pregnancy discrimination, basing our conversation on Natalie Kitroeff and Jessica Silver-Greenberg’s New York Times article “Pregnancy Discrimination Is Rampant Inside America’s Biggest Companies.”

Parent Hack:

GET UP AT THE CRACK OF DAWN TO GET YOUR WORK DONE because children are the kind of minsters who don’t care if you get your work done.

Review:

Sarah says you should read Fredrik Backman’s Us Against You, and don’t be put off by the claim that he is the Dickens of our generation because she doesn’t like Dickens.

Ben says you should watch HBO’s Succession.  He is currently bingeing the first season and loving it so much he has to pause the show at the tiniest interruption.

POTY: We are KILLING IT with the  library’s summer reading program for the kids!

Not POTY: Sometimes we forget about a kid.

POTY 41: Season 2- Welcome to the Juggle

POTY 41: Season 2- Welcome to the Juggle by Ben and Sarah Jedd

Welcome to SEASON 2!

In the News:

We have some Season 2 resolutions.  Sarah promises better show notes.  Ben doesn’t make resolutions because you are not the boss of him.

Sarah is going to get dressed all summer.

Welcome to the Juggle:

Oh my goodness.

Parent Hacks:

Get ahead of the constant snack request by anticipating their needs and making everything self-serve

Go ahead and schedule the heck out of your summer because we are all better parents in public.

Give the kids an allowance to help tame an unruly budget category.  We did this with pool snacks, and it’s been a totally hilarious social experiment.

Parenting on the Internet

We talked about Sarah Rich’s perfect essay in The Atlantic titled “Today’s Masculinity Is Stifling.”

We were also inspired to talk about our childhood summers after reading the Scary Mommy post “7 Ways Summers Today Are Different Than Summers in the ’80s.”

The Review

Sarah highly recommends the summer read The High Season by Judy Blundell.

Ben thinks we should all be watching Celebrity Family Feud.

POTY/Not POTY

POTY this week is whoever put permanent ping-pong and chess tables at Madison parks and stocked them with paddles, balls, and pieces.  GENIUS!

Not POTY is whatever idiot told the kids they could go to a water park for good grades and will probably take them anyway even though their grades were not awesome.

Ep 36: Today We Analyze the Internet (and other dumb stuff Ben says)

On this episode, we talk about why you should drag your kids to the store, why you should have more sex with your partner, and why you should cool it with the birthday parties already. Plus, we talk about how we juggle mornings and nights, who’s the week’s good parent and who really sucked it up, and what to do when your kids don’t get along.
